Driving lessons
We understand that you will be nervous at driving for the first time and to help you with this we will take you to a quiet location, explain the controls of the car and allow you to get used to the vehicle before driving on major roads. Only when you feel ready to advance to the major roads will we do so.
Not all areas have both male and female driving instructors available. To find out if we have a suitable instructor for you in your area, please ask when booking.
Our Intensive driving courses provide the ideal solution to students wishing to get up to practical driving test standard in a limited space of time. If you have a specific time frame in mind then please inform us in plenty of time to allow us to schedule the driving tests effectively. Please note: Driving schools cannot get driving tests any quicker than the general public so it is currently a 2 week wait for a theory test and approximately 6-8 weeks wait for a practical test. So if you only have a set amount of time in which to take an intensive driving course you need to keep the test waiting times in mind.
Pricing, offers and refunds
Our driving lesson prices vary depending on your area. To view pricing information in your area, please visit our price finder.
We believe in a fair pricing system for all and do not discriminate against anyone wishing to learn to drive. Our prices are competitive with other quality independent schools and offer great value for money whatever your circumstances.
The free driving lesson is used to demonstrate the controls of the car and get you moving and is perfect for pupils who have never driven a car before.
Therefore, those who are advanced or indeed at test standard and require fewer than 10 hours’ of driving lessons, would not benefit from this free driving lesson.
The introductory offers are for new drivers only and not for those approaching test standard.
Ignition Driving School holds no responsibility for refunds. All driving instructors are self employed franchisees of Ignition Driving School and all refunds are at the instructor’s discretion and must be taken up with them. Ignition Driving School takes card payments on behalf of the instructor, however, we are acting purely as a handling agent.
In the unlikely event that you wish to receive a refund, then the remaining driving lessons will be refunded. Refunds are made through the driving instructor directly and not through Ignition Driving School, and are calculated at the hourly rate of the area. So for example, the hourly driving lesson price in your area is £20 per hour and you have paid £70 for an introductory offer of 5 driving lessons but only had 2 of those 5 driving lessons, would mean that your refund was £30.
Car
We are very sorry, but at Ignition Driving School we currently only have manual cars. The automatic tuition market is very specialist and not something we offer. Please be aware, if you pass your driving test in an automatic car, then your driving licence will be restricted to just driving automatic cars. To change your driving licence from an automatic to a manual one, would require you to take your driving test again, which can be very costly.
All our tuition cars are chosen with learner drivers in mind and are all fitted with dual controls. Ignition Driving School does not have a fleet of tuition cars and it is the driving instructor's own decision as to what make and model of tuition car they choose to teach in. Driving instructors may also change their tuition car, which is something that Ignition Driving School cannot control.
Theory and practical tests
The theory test can be done at any stage of the learning to drive process. However, you cannot book a practical driving test until you have passed your theory test.
